Realizing a dream – hard work paid off!

20 years ago this month I walked into my first belly dance class. Read my article below celebrating a few of those who inspired me along the way. Aziza Nawal’s Double Sword @ Nicola’s on April 13th

Ever since I posted the performance I did in Turkey a few years ago, I wanted to perform it again. My student showcase at Nicola’s Lebanese restaurant was a success once again! The show focused largely on solo performances of the advanced level students and I announced the formation of my new performance group, Troupe Mumtaz. I was able to present two routines – here is my class double sword routine followed by Nuha Tabla – another signature drum solo!

Aziza Nawal Performs in Istanbul, Turkey

In 2006, Aziza Nawal was asked to perform on “Yıldız Yağmuru” a live television show produced in Istanbul, Turkey. It was a thrilling experience to appear on the show. Aziza Nawal would like to thank Ebru Eren, the hosts: Salemi Sahin, Muslum Gerses, Ferdi Tayfur and the staff of Star TV for their hospitality during her stay.

MUSIC: “Shisha Room” by Solace

Aziza Nawal performs tribal fusion at Atlanta Bellypalooza 2010

This is a tribal fusion piece I put together using inspiration from Rachel Brice and other talented performers of this genre. Music is “Cabaret Macabre” by Raquy and the Cavemen

This event featured a great mix of instructors for a weekend sponsored by Jendayi. I taught a Tribal vs. Cabaret workshop designed to show dancers of both genres how they can alter their existing movement vocabulary to fit into another style.
